Sedation Dentistry

How Sedation Dentistry Works

Not all sedation options are good options for everyone. Because we work with kids and teens, we only offer sedation after an initial exam and consult with the dentist. This ensures that your child feels comfortable with our dental team and lets our providers review their dental health history (and overall history) to make the best sedation choice moving forward.

Types of Pediatric Sedation Dentistry

Laughing Gas

Laughing gas is a very safe sedation option that ‘takes the edge off’ your child’s anxiety. Administered through a small nose mask, laughing gas keeps your child awake, and aware, but feeling relaxed during their dental procedure. *We are currently not offering laughing gas in our office.

General Anesthesia

We offer general anesthesia for patients who are especially anxious or for children who may have a hard time staying still and calm during a dental procedure. This sedation option is offered on a case-by-case basis, after an initial exam/consult with our dentist, and the procedure will be scheduled at the surgery center instead of in the office.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe for Your Child?

Most children do very well with laughing gas and general anesthesia, but because not every child is the same and not everyone responds exactly the same, we require an initial office visit prior to any sedation. This allows parents to ask any questions they may have regarding sedation and our dental team can thoroughly review any health risks that your child may have.
